Ingredients
Base
Sliced apples: 4 cups
Lemon juice: 1 tbsp
White sugar: ½ cup
Flour: ½ tbsp
Cinnamon: ½ tsp
Nutmeg: ¼ tsp
Water: ¼ cup
Topping
Melted butter: ¼ cup or ½ stick
Quick oats: ½ cup
Brown sugar: ½ cup
Flour: ½ cup
Baking powder: ⅛ tsp
Baking soda: ⅛ tsp
Method
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Peel and cut apples into thin slices and sprinkle lemon juice over them to prevent yellowing.
Arrange the apple slices on a pie dish or any baking dish. Mix the rest of the base ingredients -- white sugar, flour, ground cinnamon and nutmeg and sprinkle all over the slices evenly. Gently pour water all over to slightly soak the slices.
In a bowl, melt butter and add to it the oats, brown sugar, flour, baking powder and baking soda. Mix them to create a crumbly texture and sprinkle this over the apple slices to create an even topping.
Bake for 50 minutes till the crust becomes brownish in color and you can see the apple juice bubbling at the sides.
Let it cool for 15 minutes and serve with fresh fruits, whipped cream, custard or ice cream.
