Kale Chips
On July 22, 2012 by Meghalee Das“Oh my god, why didn’t I try these before”– this was my reaction after eating kale chips. I first heard about kale on Food Network shows and decided to try them out when I found them in the grocery isle. I always love eating greens and kale is very nutritious. Since I had never cooked kale leaves before, I searched on the internet and found many posts on kale chips. But for some reason I never tried them and instead either ate them raw in salads or made a general stir fry. Kale leaves can be slightly bitter and I wanted to do something different with them this time and so I finally made kale chips. They are the easiest thing to make and taste great. You need only three ingredients and 10 minutes and since we do not fry them, it can be a healthy snack!
Prep time: 10 min Baking time: 10 min Serves: 1-2
Ingredients:
Kale leaves: One standard bunch
Olive oil: 1 1/2 tbsp
Sea salt or regular salt to taste
Method:
1) Pre-heat oven at 325 degrees F. Wash the kale leaves and cut them into chip like pieces. Don’t use the hard stem in the middle. Dab the pieces with a tissue so that the excess water gets absorbed.
2) Put them in a large bowl, drizzle olive oil and sprinkle sea salt over the leaves. Toss them or mix them with your hands so that all the pieces get coated with the oil.
3) Arrange the pieces in a baking sheet in one layer so that they are not crowded up and bake them for 10-12 minutes till crisp. You may turn the leaves after 7 minutes if the they are lying flat on the sheet.
4) Check the seasoning and serve them hot and crisp.
