Spicy Rangoli!

On October 25, 2011 by Meghalee Das
First of all wish all of you a very happy Diwali. This is my favourite festival, not so much because of firecrackers, but because I get to decorate the house with lights of all shapes, sizes and colours and make yummy goodies. This post will not have any recipe although my Diwali menu consists of Dahi vada and Chole Bhature. If they turn out well, I will post the recipe here. I am not going to make anything sweet because there are still a couple of kalakand and cup cakes left. But For Diwali you can try out the Kalakand recipe, besides lots of other sweets of your choice!
Why I wanted to do this quick post was because of the special rangoli I made this time. I tried to look for colours in most of the Indian stores I know of. They do have a lot of Diwali stuff but no rangoli colours. Suddenly it struck me that there was one time people actually used home made colours to make a rangoli. So here is a silly post for today!

Prep time: 5 min Colouring time: 1 hour Serves: NOT TO BE EATEN HAHAHIHIHOHO

Ingredients:
Chilly powder: 1 cup
Turmeric powder: 1 cup
Plain flour: 3 cups

Method:
1) Take 1/2 cup chilly powder and mix with 3/4 cup flour. Prepare a pink colour.
2) Take 1/2 cup turmeric powder and mix with 1 cup flour. Prepare a light yellow colour.
You can keep increasing or decreasing the amount of flour to make different shades.
3) Now use the rest of the chilly powder to get a deep red colour and the rest of the turmeric powder for a gorgeous yellow colour.
4) You also have the flour which can be used as white colour that looks especially pretty in borders or outlines of designs.

5) Use these colours to make designs of your choice. Serve with diyas and candles!

Happy Diwali!!!
