Just a start
On July 26, 2011 by Meghalee DasNOW you are probably wondering why should you read my blog. Well, there are hundreds of sites available where you will get endless recipies. However, you may want to read mine if:
1) You start going through a recipe and realise most of the ingredients are not available where you live
2) You know they are available but you don’t have the time to go to the market and buy them
3) You are lazy (like me) but love to try out new kinds of food
4) You don’t have those stylish (expensive) and god knows what appliances
5) You take pride in your own cooking but like to experiment
6) You don’t have the patience to follow all the instructions but need some basic guidelines
7) You don’t have measuring cups but rely on your awesome common sense
8) You will read what I will write here but make your own recipe out of it
9) You are my friend and you will be invited to dinner if you post some nice comments here
If you agree with five or more of the above points, you may read on, otherwise don’t waste your time. (There goes your chance for point number 9).
Before we start, let’s chant this mantra for luck, inspiration or just because you miss her:
“My mom is the best cook in the whole world”.
There, feel better? Ok, here are some basic ideas about this blog. The target readers, one, are those who never set foot in the kitchen but LOVE to eat. And two, those who love cooking but get confused by the numerous recipies or ingredients.
See I understand it is a pain to make something by yourself when you have someone at your beck and call and literally get everything on a platter. But imagine a situation when you don’t have that someone, you don’t have balance in your phone to order food, or no cash and feeling too lazy to go to the ATM on your day off. What do you do then??? You sleep? Eat chips? Tch tch. Don’t take your growling stomach for granted, it deserves better, you deserve better after working so hard everyday. Simple solution: Go to the kitchen and just start. Ok not simple I know, sorry for being so condescending, I have time now and I am underestimating the need to lie on the bed and do nothing. But believe me, after the first 10 mintutes, the laziness will wear off and imagine the feeling of having food on your plate and snuggling in your bed with a book or a movie. Good no? That was your growling stomach saying thank you.
So for the uninitiated, I will be posting some tips or basic recipes from my personal experience which may seem to be ‘of course, duh’ to some but I am a ‘duh’ffer too and I am sure there are more out there like me who would like to read it or maybe find at least one tip helpful. If I can help you just one day, like when you are having that panic attack as you realise you don’t have an ingredient and have already started cooking, my job is done.
For the more experienced, this will be a forum of sharing our stories. I would love to hear your version of the recipe or point out where I can do better or you can use what I post here too. I have some friends who are amazing cooks and this will basically be a place where we discuss our woes of not finding the right ingredient or how we started off making something but ending up making something else. You get the picture. And DISCLAIMER DISCLAIMER Aaaaaaa Aaaaaa: None of the recipes are completely my original creation, some are inspired by my mom’s cooking or some I may have thought of in my head, basically I just adapt whatever I read to the resources I have and what is convinient for me and create something that I want. In fact, I may not follow the recipe I post here next time or may have forgotten about it and cook the same thing in a different way. I have time, I like writing, I am getting some questions from friends about the food I cook and hence this blog.
This is just the first post, so I am not going to include any recipe here. The editor in me is cringing at the 800-word-long write-up. Next time I may post a recipe or use this platform to share my experiences, tips or just write nonsense. If you want to accompany me on this journey, you are invited!
